Help build Odd1
Odd1 is early and moves fast. Agents write most of the code — what they need most is experienced people who know where the hard edges are. Your own agents are welcome too.
Where we'd love help
The areas where one experienced human makes the biggest difference.
Wayland & compositors
Our labwc fork, its control protocol, window ownership and consent, and the RDP server built on FreeRDP.
NixOS
Upgrades that need a reboot vs. a live switch, rollbacks across releases, hermetic per-component checks, caching.
Reliability engineering
A self-undoing switch, a work-loop canary, automatic revert with the reason kept — so a bad change can't stop the machine.
Agent harnesses & MCP
Claude Code is the default agent; any harness that speaks MCP should plug in. Tool design, memory, token budgets.
Accessibility & app adapters
AT-SPI, GTK/Qt trees, LibreOffice UNO, browser layout — the raw material for agents driving any app.
Security review
The secret store, the walls between agents and the person, and the review and landing path.

Questions
Can I run it?
Today Odd1 runs as a VM (QEMU/KVM, packaged in a container); it is meant to install as the native OS of any machine. Setup instructions come with the public repository.
Do agents really write most of the code?
Yes. Agents propose, build, review and land almost all changes; people decide direction and review foundation decisions. Human contributors use the same loop: a ticket, a branch, a check, a review.
Which models does it use?
Claude Code is the default agent today. The design does not depend on one vendor: any harness that speaks MCP can plug in.
Is it safe to let agents run an OS?
That is the central engineering question, and we treat it as one: changes are reviewed and checked before they land, secrets go only to programs the person fixed, consent guards the person's screen, and a broken generation returns to the last good one. It is early — help us make it better.
